Principal
CHRISTOPHER JOHNS has served as a Mediator and Neutral Evaluator with the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Program of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California for more than two (2) decades, where he has mediated and evaluated scores of cases for the Court, involving the areas of insurance coverage/bad faith, personal injury, complex business disputes and civil rights.
Christopher served in the United States Marine Corps, where he earned the rank of Sergeant (E-5), was awarded a Meritorious Mast for his exemplary service, and received an Honorable Discharge (1968-1971).
CHRISTOPHER JOHNS received his BA degree from UC Berkeley in 1975, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, with “Honors in Rhetoric” and “Great Distinction in General Scholarship.” He graduated from UC Law SF (formerly Hastings College of the Law) in 1979, where he served as the Managing Editor of the Hastings International and Comparative Law Review (1978-1979) and as an extern Law Clerk to Judge Alfred T. Goodwin, Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (Spring 1979). Following graduation, Christopher served as the regular Law Clerk to Judge Procter Hug, Jr., Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (1979-1980). Christopher received an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell and has been listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers (1998-2024). Christopher has been certified (July 2017) and re-certified (July 2022) as a Specialist in Appellate Law by the California Board of Legal Specialization, State Bar of California.
As a founding partner of Johns & Allyn, Christoper has acted as the chief trial lawyer handling over 200 cases to conclusion through trial, summary judgment, and/or mediation involving complex civil cases including insurance bad faith, insurance coverage, declaratory relief actions, aviation, product liability, professional liability, contract disputes, construction defects, personal injury, trade secret, and environmental litigation. He also served as appointed appellate counsel on numerous federal appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Court based on appointments from the Ninth Circuit and served as appointed appellate counsel on death penalty direct appeals to the California Supreme Court based on appointments by the Supreme Court.
After more than four (4) decades of practicing law, Christopher has recently retired from active practice and moved to Boise, Idaho where he now works as a full-time mediator and arbitrator. When not mediating or arbitrating, Christopher is a hands-on dad to his 7-year-old daughter, Josephine, coaching her soccer team, taking her to the local farmers market, and has been seen running after her at Disneyland.
